With the fourth falling on a Thursday this year, the Air Force gave Brent Friday off. It has been so nice having Brent home again for another longer period of time! Usually this time of the year we are in Baudette with lots and lots of family. Unfortunately this year we weren't comfortable enough to take Ellis on the airplane just yet. It was hard not being there... first time I've missed this family gathering weekend in 26 years!! (Hopefully we'll be there next year.) Anyways, we spent our Thursday doing some shopping.. that night the fireworks began. Rather than one GIANT show like back home, there are a ton of decent sized shows going on all over. Every direction you look there were fireworks going off. Big ones too! It was a pretty cool site to see as we drove to the river to watch from there. Once we got home we were pleasantly surprised to see the neighbor behind us was lighting off HUGE fire works! So... Ellis and I sat in the love sac and watched the fireworks right outside our window. Pretty comfortable viewing area. Brent was hanging out with Mox who was hiding in the upstairs closet listening to the blaring radio to help drown out the sound of all the POPS from the fireworks. (If you don't know, Mox is SUPER scared of pops- fireworks, guns, people rolling their trashcans to the end of the driveway.... That can be blamed on us for bringing him to the Baudette fireworks as a puppy four years ago, followed by a trip to the gun range with Brent...)
Although we wished we could have been home with all of our family... we were so happy to be together as our own little family. Thankful for our independence as a country. Thankful that Brent's deployment has been canceled and he's able to be home with us during this holiday. As long as we are all together, we're happy. We do continue to pray that his deployment stays turned off!! End of September can't come soon enough in regards to that situation!
Yesterday back home was the annual Dinndorf Classic Golf Tournament. This has been a family tradition for at least 20+ years! Bummed we missed this too. This year it was a little different. Without our "Mary up the Middle Gram" the family named the tournament in honor of her. "The Irish Opener".
In the mail a few days before this we got this awesome gift in the mail from the commissioners of the tournament this year. (Cousin's: Maddie and Sarah)
As the family back home walked the course, we walked the nieghborhood. This was Ellis' first stroller walk in the neighborhood in his bassinet! He LOVED it. Slept most of the time and even when he was awake he was so content. He probably loved the warm warm weather! (Ellis does NOT like to be cold.) Ps. a big shade does come down and covers him completely from the sun. Just so the Grandma's know that.... ;-)
Today was a little slower day. We ran a few errands, took a few naps, and just enjoyed a quiet Saturday. We have been having a hard time controlling our spit up... We were working on a 3 hour feeding schedule but I think it's biting us in the butt. Based on my internet research (;-)) spitting up could be caused from eating to fast, to much, to aggressively... I think this might be the case... we'll see...
